Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Elementary Teacher to join our team at Widmyer Elementary School. As a key member of our educational community, you will play a vital role in shaping the minds of our students and helping them achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs of our students.
  • Utilize technology to enhance the teaching and learning process, ensuring that our students are equipped with the skills necessary to succeed in the 21st century.
  • Deliver high-quality instruction to all students, with a focus on meeting the learning objectives and standards for the appropriate grade level.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles, ensuring that every student has an equal opportunity to succeed.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the West Virginia Department of Education and board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to support school-wide academic performance goals and instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formative and informative testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsors, plans and implements co-curricular activities/programs, such as curricular fairs, awards programs, and/or field trips as designated by the principal.
  • Maintain a positive role model for students.
  • Support the mission of the school district.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with West Virginia Board of Education Policy 4373 (Expected Behavior in Safe and Supportive Schools) and student handbook.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers to support student learning.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve Standards of Practice for self and colleagues.
  • Keep informed and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Adhere to Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in Morgan County School's Policy 3210.
  • Perform other duties deemed appropriate and assigned by the Superintendent and/or immediate supervisor(s).
Requirements
  • Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specialization and grade levels, pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-2.
  • Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate.
  • Meets the qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2a.
