Job Overview:
We are seeking a motivated mechanical systems specialist to engage in process design, development, and evaluation/testing activities on intricate mechanical systems, including precision mechanisms and electro-mechanical assemblies, within a collaborative program environment.
Support for program initiatives and technical guidance on requirements definition, concept creation, material selection, trade studies, design optimization, preliminary and final design, documentation, and assembly/integration and testing may be necessary.
The ideal candidate will possess experience in 3D modeling, critical hardware design and development, and the capability to work autonomously as well as within a multidisciplinary team.
The candidate should be prepared to engage in hands-on work within a laboratory setting.Key Responsibilities:
Operate with minimal supervision across various high-stakes program activities
Opportunity to present findings to internal and external stakeholders, including client representatives
Creation of Technical Data Package components (Part and Assembly drawings, etc.)
Prototype, integrate, and test component parts and assemblies
Develop testing plans and procedures for mechanical subsystems
Conduct evaluations of component parts and systems
Engage in peer reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs), Critical Design Reviews (CDRs), and other essential design evaluations
Participate in product change review meetings and discussions, implementing necessary modifications
Contribute to interdisciplinary design teams and reviews
Adhere to company protocols for product development, configuration management, procurement, etc.
Guide Designers/Technicians as part of a design team
Support field testing and demonstration efforts as a Mechanical Engineering representative
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; Graduate Degree with a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
Ability to obtain U.S. security clearance
2+ years of experience in developing complex mechanical systems, including precision mechanisms and electro-mechanical hardware
Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 standards
Preferred Skills:
Active Top Secret/SCI clearance is highly desirable
Favorable polygraph
Ability to gather technical concepts and present them to program leadership
Experience in the design or development of precision mechanisms and mechatronic systems
Proficiency in CAD software such as Creo
Experience in additive manufacturing, part optimization, and design for manufacturing and assembly is advantageous
Experience with any of the following: actuators, custom gear trains, electro-optical systems, materials testing, and manufacturing processes.
