Addiction Medicine Nurse Counselor

As a Nurse Counselor in the Addiction Medicine Department at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in providing nursing assessment, monitoring, and support to outpatients and/or inpatients. Your expertise will be essential in conducting thorough assessments, screening for detoxification needs, and recommending the next level of treatment. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary treatment team to ensure continuity of care and make appropriate referrals. Essential Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough nursing assessments of patients, screening for detoxification needs and other health-related concerns.
- Recommend the next level of treatment based on preliminary assessment and/or diagnosis.
- Implement outpatient detoxification protocols and administer medications and process laboratory requests consistent with physician orders.
- Evaluate and document the efficacy of treatments and/or medications taken.
- Develop and present patient-oriented lectures and materials or health-related and program concerns.
- Function as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, making appropriate referrals, advocating for patient needs, coordinating care delivery, and maintaining/improving quality standards.
- Provide consultation services to physicians and nurses within other Kaiser medical departments as directed.
- Provide clear, concise, and targeted evaluations of patient need for Addiction Medicine continuing care services.
- Provide appropriate nursing care in support of other program activities.
- Order, receive, and distribute pharmaceuticals and medical supplies as necessary.
- Assist in the development of nursing policies, practices, and procedures as related to the Department of Addiction Medicine.
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum two (2) years of experience providing nursing care in an addiction's treatment setting.
- Education: High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
- License, Certification, Registration: Registered Nurse License (California), Basic Life Support.
Additional Requirements:
- Knowledge of practice standards within the field of addiction treatment.
- Knowledge of community organizations, referral resources.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
