Job Overview

KFI Engineers PC is a leading industry expert in facility infrastructure design and performance. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Building Performance Engineer to support successful execution of commissioning, re/retro-commissioning, and energy audit projects.

About the Role

This senior-level position plays a critical role in providing technical expertise, oversight, and management to ensure that building performances, systems, and equipment conform to design specifications. As a seasoned professional, you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting thorough building performance evaluations and audits, including commissioning, re-commissioning, and retro-commissioning activities.
  • Executing HVAC functional tests, point verification, and sequence tests, as well as assisting with other systems tests such as electrical, lighting, life safety, fire protection, or plumbing systems.
  • Participating in construction meetings, directing commissioning meetings, and recording action items.
  • Performing construction inspections to ensure MEP installations conform to project documents.
  • Assisting in Test & Balance measurements and developing technical reports.
  • Calculating building energy use and savings, and working on project management tasks, including budgeting and resource allocation.

About You

We seek a candidate with at least 5 years of experience in direct HVAC, building operations, or construction fields, preferably holding a Professional Engineer License, NEBB Building Systems Commissioning Certification, and strong communication skills. As a Senior Building Performance Engineer, you will have a pragmatic approach, enjoy fieldwork, and effectively interact with customers and contractors. Your expertise in Building Automation Controls (BAC) and ability to work under pressure will drive your success in this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 5+ years of direct HVAC, building operations, or construction fields.
  • Professional Engineer License, NEBB Building Systems Commissioning Certification, and/or equivalent certifications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Travel: Up to 25% domestic travel may be required.

Estimated Salary Range: $85,000 - $115,000 per year
