Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Per-Diem Dental Assistant to join our team at North Shore Community Health Inc. As a Per-Diem Dental Assistant, you will work chairside in our dental clinics, assisting our dental providers in providing exceptional patient care.

About the Role

The Per-Diem Dental Assistant will be responsible for preparing treatment rooms, obtaining and recording patient vitals, and providing information to patients and employees. You will also be responsible for sterilizing and delivering instruments, positioning instruments for the dentist's access, and suctioning. Additionally, you will provide diagnostic information to the provider by exposing radiographs, pouring, and trimming study casts.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patients by following prescribed procedures and protocols.
  • Obtain and record patient vitals, including blood pressure.
  • Provide information to patients and employees by answering non-clinical questions and requests.
  • Prepare patient for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting, seating, and draping patient.
  • Provide instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area.
  • Provide materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments.
  • Comply with all infection control procedures and OSHA regulations to maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Provide diagnostic information to the provider by exposing radiographs, pouring, and trimming study casts.
  • Keep operatory and other clinical areas clean and well stocked.
  • Assist dentist in managing dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, emergency drug, and oxygen supply, and emergency telephone directory.
  • Educate patients by giving postoperative instructions per provider direction.
  • Document dental care services by charting in patient records.
  • In collaboration with the Dental team, maintain operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Schedule accurate dental appointments.
  • Provide exemplary customer service; treats patients and coworkers with courtesy and discretion.
  • Maintain good standing with DA license. Earn 12 credits per 2-year cycle. Records of credits to be given directly to DOM
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • A minimum of a High School Diploma/GED.
  • Dental Assistant and Radiology Certificates are required.
  • Three years experience as a dental assistant.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/Portuguese and English, a plus.
  • Good working knowledge of dental equipment and terminology, OSHA, and safety compliance.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced dental environment.
  • Superior customer service skills and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, professional, and able to multi-task.
  • Good working knowledge of EPIC/WISDOM.
  • Maintains strict adherence to the NSCH Confidentiality policy.
  • Ability to be courteous, efficient, effective, and patient in a fast-paced environment.
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities; Exhibits objectivity and openness to others' views; Gives and welcomes feedback; Contributes to building a positive team spirit; Puts team success above own interests.
  • Ability to work in a cultural-diverse environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintains a high level of customer service with both patients and coworkers.
  • Preference will be given to qualified bilingual/bicultural individuals who can speak Spanish and/or Portuguese.
  • The ability to travel to other NSCHI sites for meetings and clinical coverage as needed is required.
  • Some evening and weekend hours are required.
