Key Responsibilities
  1. Customer Service: Proactively greet and engage with patrons, providing assistance with library materials and services. Answer directional and general questions, and refer callers and visitors to the appropriate staff member or service desk.
  2. Collection Maintenance: Check out, check in, and renew library materials, including atypical items. Monitor library spaces, ensuring the safety and security of patrons and library assets.
  3. Database Management: Maintain customer databases with precision and attention to detail, registering customers and updating library accounts as needed.
  4. Shelving and Organization: Correctly shelve library materials according to the Dewey Decimal system or alphabet, ensuring browseability and easy access for patrons.
  5. Library Operations: Assist with searching for and locating materials, processing items for decommission, and performing other library housekeeping tasks as required.
  6. Program Support: Assist with library services, small and large-scale programs, and outreach opportunities, including program set-up and tear down, crowd control, and creating take-home craft kits.
  7. Training and Development: Help orient new staff, ensuring a smooth acclimation to the library and our culture. Train staff members as assigned.
  8. Technology and Safety: Keep abreast of changing technologies, complete assigned trainings, and assume personal responsibility for building maintenance and solving minor issues and problems.
Requirements
  1. Education and Experience: High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on-the-job education in a specific skill area, such as customer service and clerical.
  2. Computer and Software Skills: Intermediate computer and software skills, including the ability to learn the library's automation and inventory system.
  3. Math and Library Skills: Basic math skills and basic library skills, including alphabetization and filing.
Work Environment

The Fayetteville Public Library is a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts. The ability to tolerate moderate noise and occasional work near mechanical equipment is required.
