Registered Nurse (O-4 Billet) Non-Supervisory

Overview:

This role is situated within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), specifically within the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) sector, focusing on Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) and the ICE Health Service Corps (IHSC). The position reports to the Nurse Manager, Health Services Administrator, and Clinical Director, and is classified as non-supervisory.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver direct nursing care to detainees, utilizing comprehensive knowledge of nursing principles and practices.
  • Execute nursing procedures as per established protocols, ensuring compliance with IHSC directives and guidelines.
  • Document all patient interactions meticulously using the S.O.A.P.E. format, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Assess patient needs and develop appropriate nursing care plans.
  • Gather medical histories from detainees and refer identified health issues to the physician or Advanced Practice Provider (APP).
  • Conduct nursing triage and screenings during sick calls, adhering to approved clinical guidelines.
  • Facilitate communication with detainees who may require interpretation services.
  • Provide daily nursing care in Medical Housing Units (MHU) and alert the medical provider of any concerning findings.
  • Coordinate healthcare needs with the healthcare team and manage referrals to external providers as necessary.
  • Engage in patient education and training in line with agency protocols.
  • Maintain a clear separation from security and custody responsibilities.
  • Assist medical providers during appointments, including vital sign assessments.
  • Respond to emergency medical situations as required, providing necessary treatment.
  • Administer medications following established safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with public health and safety directives, maintaining a focus on infection control and emergency preparedness.
  • Manage medical supplies and equipment, ensuring readiness and availability for patient care.
  • Participate in continuous professional development and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing and hold a valid nursing license. A minimum of four years of nursing experience is preferred, with a strong emphasis on clinical skills and patient management.
