Veterinary Technician

About the Position: We seek an experienced veterinary technician to join our team at the University of Georgia's ophthalmology service. As a vital member of the service, you will be responsible for providing top-notch patient care and technical support while operating complex equipment related to eye procedures. Your contributions will directly impact the success of the service and patient care, encompassing examinations, specimen collection, diagnostic procedures, treatments, anesthesia, and surgeries on small and large animals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct clinical laboratory tests and analyze results
- Assist in radiology procedures, ensuring proper settings, positioning, processing, and safety
- Administer intravenous and arterial catheterizations
- Apply treatments, drugs, fluids, medications, and immunological agents via various routes
- Place intra-nasal and intra-gastric tubes
- Perform dental procedures and euthanasia
- Provide surgical assistance and resuscitative care
- Apply splints and slings, as well as wound dressings and supportive care for severe wounds and burns
Working Conditions: The work environment is dynamic, requiring collaboration with small and large animals. You will engage in sitting, standing, stooping, bending, and walking on hard floor surfaces. Personal protective equipment, such as masks, gloves, gowns, hairnets, and safety goggles, must be worn, and prolonged arm extension is common. This role demands lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, as well as manual dexterity for delicate equipment or heavy objects.
