Application Process
The Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering is seeking to appoint a Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) at a commitment of 50% (20 hours per week) for the NAVARCH course. Course Overview
NAVARCH: Course Overview
This course delves into the organization of ship design, covering preliminary design techniques for sizing and form, as well as aspects of powering, maneuvering, and seakeeping estimation. It also includes arrangements, propulsion, structural synthesis, and considerations for safety and environmental risks associated with ships. Students will utilize a design computer environment extensively, and based on the owner's requirements, will individually develop and present the conceptual or preliminary design for a displacement vessel.
Key Responsibilities*
- Assessing and grading student assignments.
- Conducting regular office hours to support students throughout the course.
- Being accessible via email to assist students with course-related inquiries.
- Attending all lectures and instructor meetings.
- GSIs are expected to be present and available for work by the start of the academic term.
Required Qualifications*
- Graduate student in good academic standing.
- Must meet eligibility criteria as specified in the relevant contract.
Preferred Qualifications*
- Proven teaching abilities and experience.
- Familiarity with the course and instructor is advantageous.
