Overview:
The Registered Dietitian provides comprehensive nutritional guidance, support, and education to patients enrolled in the program. This role acts as a vital resource for both patients and healthcare team members, addressing the nutritional needs of diverse populations served by the department.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics or equivalent experience. Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) or eligibility for registration. Successful completion of the registration exam is required within six months of employment.
Experience:
A minimum of zero to six months of experience is required. Preferred candidates will have two or more years of experience in Dietetics and Nutrition, along with a Master's Degree in a related field.
Licensure and Certification:
- Certification as a Dietitian/Nutritionist in the State of New York is required. New graduates must obtain this certification promptly after passing the RD exam.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct initial and follow-up nutrition assessments for patients undergoing medical and surgical weight loss programs, documenting findings accurately.
Evaluate patients' nutritional status, biochemical markers, dietary habits, lifestyle choices, and physical activity levels.
Deliver nutrition education tailored to patients, covering pre- and post-operative dietary guidelines, essential nutrients, and vitamin supplementation based on established protocols.
Develop personalized meal plans and behavioral goals, guiding patients through their nutritional journey during both surgical and non-surgical pathways.
Understand documentation requirements for preauthorization of Bariatric surgery and maintain knowledge of various Bariatric procedures.
Conduct inpatient visits for post-operative Bariatric patients to reinforce dietary guidelines and address any inquiries.
Oversee dietary management for non-surgical patients, assisting them in setting nutrition goals, creating meal plans, and understanding prescribed weight management medications.
Guide patients through various dietary approaches, including Mediterranean, Ketogenic, Plant-Based, and Meal Replacement strategies, in collaboration with healthcare providers.
Assess patients' readiness to engage in weight loss programs, presenting any concerns to the healthcare team for collaborative decision-making regarding care plans.
- Facilitate support groups and related activities, including logistics, communication, and discussion topics.
- Develop educational resources and contribute to program development while staying informed on obesity and Bariatric research.
- Exhibit strong analytical skills to interpret laboratory results in conjunction with healthcare providers.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to effectively engage with a diverse patient population and healthcare team.
- Showcase strong organizational and time management abilities, working independently and efficiently.
Consistently demonstrate reliable attendance and fulfill additional responsibilities as required.
