Charles County Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs.
Responsibilities:- Implement the CCPS educational curriculum and provide differentiated instruction and accommodations for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Provide consistent implementation of the EA behavior management program and daily data collection.
- Direct the instructional assistant in fulfilling their role.
- Help students de-escalate and conduct problem-solving sessions to debrief and process behavior choices.
- Assist in crisis prevention intervention and use of exclusion, seclusion, and restraint as necessary.
- Obtain a certificate for successful completion of Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (CPI) and renew annually.
- Facilitate the daily interactive Check-in/Check-up/Check-out process with students.
- Coordinate implementation of IEPs across special education and regular education settings.
- Conduct case manager and IEP responsibilities, including quarterly progress monitoring of student IEP goals.
- Distribute, collect, and review monitoring forms from other teachers.
- Attend IEP meetings for students on caseload and other EA students as needed.
- Provide intensive case management and document frequent contact with students' parents/guardians.
- Communicate with service providers and general education teachers as needed.
- Complete standardized educational assessments and observations when necessary.
- Participate in developing specific interventions and collaborating with the EA team.
- Consult and collaborate with EA staff, EA school psychologist, and EA Coordinator on relevant student issues.
- Maintain current professional standards and certification.
- Deliver high-quality, engaging instruction using a variety of methods.
- Integrate technology effectively into the curriculum.
The Special Education Teacher will work in a dynamic and supportive environment, interacting with students, parents, and staff. The position requires ordinary ambulatory skills, ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and manipulate light to medium weights. The employee must have good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, and visual acuity to use a keyboard.
