Job SummaryThe General Education Instructor will provide instruction that facilitates students' achievement of course objectives, engage in scholarly and service activity to promote their professional development, and contribute to the success of the Program and its students.
Key Responsibilities- Teach at least 36 credits per fiscal year.
- Ensure student engagement and awareness of course objectives through approach and evaluation techniques.
- Set and meet organizational goals that impact student outcomes.
- Plan, teach, and evaluate classroom, labs, and other learning experiences in conjunction with other team members.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to student success.
- Follow established policies and processes in the Faculty Handbook to address student behavior or performance inconsistent with established standards.
- Communicate clear course objectives and expectations.
- Develop individualized instruction using a variety of well-designed instructional materials, including multimedia presentations and current interactive technologies, focusing primarily on experiential and project-based learning.
- Empower students to think critically about coursework and its applications, especially to the profession of Nursing.
- Identify students who are 'at risk,' refer those students to the Dean or Executive Director of Academic Operations, and connect those students to resources for their success.
- Provide ongoing student advisement and academic counseling by tutoring and mentoring students on an individual basis when needed.
- Grade tests and projects, maintain grade books, and track attendance. Report all grades and attendance on time. Perform other administrative duties as needed.
- Administer oral, written, or performance tests to measure progress and to evaluate training effectiveness.
- Assist the Dean of General Education or Executive Director of Academic Operations in attracting, developing, and retaining quality faculty and adjuncts.
- Consistently demonstrate a student-centric mentality, apply, and improve tactics to retain students, and achieve high student satisfaction.
- Participate in student-centered activities to promote a sense of community between students and faculty.
- Participate in ongoing conferences, seminars, and training sessions.
- Provide input and participate in academic committees formed for the purpose of enrichment of both the programs and students.
- Demonstrate leadership by serving as a mentor to junior faculty, adjuncts, and students.
- Contribute to other administrative areas to support students, department, and institution.
- Maintain a presence on campus and contribute to the campus culture in a positive and meaningful way.
- Maintain posted office hours.
- Graduate degree from an accredited program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) required.
- Minimum of 15 or more credit hours earned directly in assigned subject area required.
- Masters required. Doctorate degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of prior teaching/training experience in the content field or closely related field, preferably within higher education or in the healthcare field.
- Distance Learning/Online teaching experience in addition to on-ground experience is strongly preferred.
- Computer literate with Microsoft Office 365 (or similar software) and videoconferencing software required; experience with Canvas LMS, SMART board, ExamSoft/Examplify (or similar software) preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in English.
