The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is seeking a highly skilled Network Systems Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Information Technology Department, you will be responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting our district-wide and local area data and telecommunications networks.
Key Responsibilities- Network Design and Implementation: Plan, design, procure, install, and test the performance of wide/local area network configurations and associated hardware and software.
- Network Maintenance and Support: Maintain and support voice and data communications network hardware and software.
- Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot and resolve wide/local area network and voice communication issues, and anticipate and resolve potential future problems.
- Security and Compliance: Assist in analyzing technology risks and security risks, and notify supervisor if warranted. Implement policies, programs, and procedures of a district-wide computer security program.
- Technical Support and Training: Provide technical support to other Information Technology Department staff as required, and assist with account administration. Develop and present a computer training program in relation to computer security.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Education: Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in information technology, computer science, or a closely related field.
- Experience: Four years of experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of network communications, including LAN/WAN systems.
- Certifications: A Cisco CCNA certification may be substituted for one year of the required education or experience.
We are looking for candidates with:
- Knowledge of Local Area Networks: Knowledge of local area networks, wide area networks, and distributed database systems.
- Interpersonal Skills: Interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Technical Skills: Ability to perform technical studies and to coordinate activities relating to planning, developing, implementing, controlling, and revising the district's networks.
