Position Overview:

The Ecological Machinery Specialist at MNL is tasked with the setup, operation, cleaning, and maintenance of various agricultural equipment. This role also encompasses support for all phases of native seed production and farm activities, including planting, spraying, weed management, controlled burning, harvesting, and seed processing.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates and maintains a range of agricultural machinery, ensuring proper cleaning and setup. Equipment includes tractors, skid-steers, harvesters, mowers, and other tools essential for seed production.
  • Prepares and operates harvesters and related equipment efficiently.
  • Contributes to the design and modification of machinery as needed.
  • Engages in both mechanical and manual field tasks, such as planting, spraying, weed management, harvesting, controlled burning, and seed processing.
  • Documents maintenance and operational activities as required.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications:

  • Preferred experience in agriculture, particularly in equipment operation and upkeep.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Mechanical aptitude is essential, with a focus on creatively modifying equipment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Basic computer proficiency is advantageous.
  • Commitment to MNL's mission of environmental restoration.

  • Experience with herbicide management and application is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, reach, and move as necessary to fulfill various agricultural and seed production tasks.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work long hours, including early mornings, late evenings, and occasional weekends; hours may vary with the seasons.
  • Ability to work in diverse weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
