About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Network Control Systems Engineering team as a Summer Intern. As a member of our team, you will play a critical role in supporting the movement of essential products and materials across the nation's freight network.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain critical Train Control Systems to ensure safe and efficient train movement.
  • Support systems responsible for monitoring and assessing system health, measuring KPIs, collecting and analyzing large amounts of data using data science principles, and laser mapping the network to ensure digital railroad infrastructure is in sync with the physical one.
  • Gain knowledge of critical safety system design, data modeling, data science principles, GIS systems, LiDAR mobile mapping,.NET, C/C++, Python software development, web development custom-designed frameworks, project management, and locomotive systems.
  • Be exposed to methodologies, principles, and design considerations associated with critical systems that demand a highly available and fault-tolerant infrastructure.

Requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and will be at least eighteen (18) years old upon hire.
  • Does not require sponsorship to obtain, maintain, or extend authorization to work in the United States.
  • Capable of working in a 24/7 environment, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and can safely perform duties outdoors in all weather conditions or in a shop, terminal, or field environment.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Business, or a similar degree program from an accredited university.
  • Have and will maintain at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA.
  • Have LESS THAN three (3) years of professional work experience, EXCLUDING internships, part-time jobs, or positions held while pursuing my undergraduate and/or graduate degree.
  • Have access to reliable transportation for the duration of the internship to and from my assigned BNSF location.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior internship experience or less than 3 years of work experience in Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Have or have held a leadership position in a campus, community, or extracurricular organization.
