Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Disease Intervention Specialist to join our team at Hays County, TX. The successful candidate will work to intervene in the spread of infectious diseases in our community, developing and implementing infection prevention strategies and working directly with citizens to promote health and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide treatment consultations to clinics on communicable diseases, including vaccine-preventable diseases, food and waterborne illnesses, zoonotic diseases, sexually transmitted diseases, and COVID-19.
  • Consult with physicians, schools, and other stakeholders on the prevention and control of communicable diseases.
  • Assist epidemiologists in interviewing patients and contacts/partners to gather information on infections and exposures to communicable diseases.
  • Prepare detailed reports analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Participate in and lead key programmatic activities, including setting program goals and priorities, implementing strategies, evaluating outcomes, and ensuring coordination of community infection prevention activities.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with partners to establish and maintain professional networking relationships.
  • Manage the progress of related projects and adapt work as required to ensure projects meet deadlines.
  • Interact with physicians, nurses, department heads, supervisors, and other occupational health professionals/non-professionals to provide resource information, resolve infection control problems, and identify new opportunities to improve health throughout the community.
  • Consult with the Local Health Authority.
  • Write, edit, design, and distribute communications to Hays County citizens.
  • Work directly with Hays County Grant Writers to procure relevant grants for community-based infectious disease programs.
  • Research and obtain further information for incomplete documents and data.
  • Manage and organize records and files.
  • Comply with all Hays County Local Health Department regulations, including those aimed at protecting personal health information.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in public health, biology, epidemiology, or a related field.
  • Experience in a related field may substitute for education up to three years.
  • Infection control experience: three years (preferred).
  • Public relations or outreach experience (preferred).
