At Santa Clara University, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate General Counsel to join our team. As a key member of our Office of the General Counsel, you will provide expert legal advice and guidance to our leadership and personnel on a wide range of legal matters.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal counsel and guidance on various legal matters, including business transactions, intellectual property, research, real estate, construction, student matters, employee matters, academic matters, compliance and regulatory matters, risk management, and other areas as needed.
  • Anticipate, identify, and address legal issues to develop legal strategies and solutions.
  • Review, consult on, and draft University policies and procedures.
  • Represent or oversee the representation of the University in judicial and administrative proceedings.
  • Supervise and manage work performed by outside legal counsel.
  • Design and deliver training on legal issues impacting the University.
  • Participate in the supervision of responses to subpoenas served on the University.
  • Remain current on developments in the law that will impact the University.
  • Serve on and/or advise University committees.
  • Develop and foster strong relationships with University stakeholders.
  • Engage in continuous education and professional development.
Requirements:
  • J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school.
  • At least 7 years of progressively sophisticated experience as a practicing and licensed attorney.
  • Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the time of employment.
Work Environment:

This position requires the ability to work in-person at the University at least three (3) business days per week, with some remote work allowed with approval.
