We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Transportation Engineer to join our Vision Zero team at the City of Seattle. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing transportation safety initiatives that align with our city's vision for a safe and equitable transportation system.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement priority safety corridor projects that address holistic transportation needs and align with citywide and departmental objectives.
- Analyze high collision spot locations and develop safety improvement scopes to reduce crashes and improve road safety.
- Lead the development and deployment of Safe Systems countermeasures citywide, including analyzing crash trends and supporting the development of policies to advance a safe systems approach.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including the public, elected officials, and other agencies, to inform and explain project objectives and answer questions.
- Manage and coordinate consultant selection processes, prepare and negotiate consultant agreements, and administer projects supported by various grants.
- Prepare reports, correspondence, advertisements, and official documents, and provide presentations to stakeholders.
- Coordinate the preparation and review of multiple reports and studies, including public involvement plans, alternatives analysis, traffic analysis, pavement design, drainage memos, scope of work, project budgets and schedules, planning-level cost estimates, and preliminary design plans.
- Five (5) years of professional civil engineering experience and a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington.
- Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
- Traffic Engineering knowledge and experience, including the ability to conduct traffic engineering reviews and provide guidance.
- Knowledge and experience with AutoCAD or other CAD software, including AutoTurn, traffic modeling software, such as Synchro/SIDRA, and ArcGIS.
- Excellent record keeping skills, excellent customer service experience, and demonstrated reliability.
- Ability to effectively work in a multi-cultural workplace with a diverse customer base.
The majority of work is performed in a normal City work/office environment with hybrid options at this time. Field assignments entail exposure to all types of weather, traffic, hazardous/toxic substances, and work in or near construction sites. May be required to lift over 50 pounds, stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time, work nights, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays, and travel overnight.
