Job Title: Mechanical Engineer III

ATS Automation Tooling Systems is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer III to join our team in Chicago. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing automated equipment that meets customer and internal specifications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop automated equipment, including cam, servo, and air-operated stations.
  • Execute cam (drive) design and ensure the design is functional, robust, and cost-effective.
  • Research and specify appropriate materials and purchased components.
  • Create detail drawings, assembly drawings, bill of materials, and organize release packages.
  • Participate in internal and customer design reviews.
  • Prepare pneumatic and timing diagrams and select appropriate sensors.
  • Work with suppliers to find and develop the most functional and economical solutions to design issues.
  • Work under the confines of the project schedule and budget.
  • Problem-solve design or detail issues and update all appropriate documentation.
  • Communicate ideas and comprehend information both verbally and in written form.
  • Assimilate well within a team and exhibit objectivity and openness to other views.
  • Follow all policy and procedures to adhere to International Standardization Organization (ISO) 9001 and 13485 certification requirements.
  • Help guide and mentor Level I and Level II Mechanical Engineers with the execution of their designs and projects.
Qualifications:
  • College degree in mechanical engineering, engineering-related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Six (6+) or more years of automation experience.
  • Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD, 3D Solid Works, or similar CAD systems.
  • Proficient with computers, including programs such as AutoCAD, Solid Works, Microsoft Office suite, etc.
  • Able to operate fax machines, copiers, printers/plotters, etc.
  • Proficient with inspection and measuring tools such as scales, calipers, micrometers, etc.
Working Conditions:
  • The employee may be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
  • Visual acuity - Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens.
  • Hearing ability - Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions.
  • Working conditions - The employee is subject to a normal office environment with occasional exposure to high noise levels and/or physical hazards when visiting manufacturing floor.
  • Capable of wearing appropriate related PPE for extended periods of time.
