Civil Engineer III Job Description

The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer III to join our Public Works Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing complex civil engineering work, directing and managing public works projects, and ensuring compliance with city codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop public works and public utility projects
  • Prepare estimates and manage public works and public utility construction projects
  • Conduct flood hazard analyses and provide technical information to contractors and the public
  • Direct the processing of invoices and engage in engineering research
  • Calculate costs and project bids, and maintain contact with various departments and agencies
  • Ensure compliance with subdivision regulations, city codes, and contract specifications
  • Review site plans and subdivision plans for code and standards compliance
Requirements:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current principles and practices of civil engineering
  • Thorough knowledge of current methods and techniques as applied to the construction and maintenance of public works
  • Ability to adapt approved engineering methods and standards to the design and construction of municipal public works
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and exercise decision-making skills in the interest of public safety
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, AutoCAD, and other engineering modeling software
Acceptable Experience and Training:

Graduation from a college or university of recognized standing with major course work in civil engineering and extensive experience in the practice of municipal civil engineering. Pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check required.
