Position Overview

Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI) is dedicated to empowering families and individuals, fostering connections that lead to healthier lives.

We are currently seeking a Support Caseworker to deliver essential services to clients and families as part of our new statewide Recruitment, Retention, Training, and Support (RRTS) initiative. This role will primarily serve the Sioux City area, including Woodbury and neighboring counties.

Work Schedule and Environment

This position offers flexible working hours. While the majority of the workload is remote, occasional travel to office locations for training and team meetings will be necessary. Travel is also required to meet client needs, with mileage expenses reimbursed by LSI.

Key Responsibilities

The Support Caseworker serves as the primary contact for foster and adoptive families in their designated area. Responsibilities include:

  • Recruitment of potential foster and adoptive families
  • Responding to inquiries from families
  • Facilitating training sessions
  • Assisting with licensing processes
  • Providing matching services for children and families
  • Offering placement support
  • Maintaining contact following a child's transition from the home

This role involves collaboration with a team to ensure the best possible placements for children in our care. The Support Caseworker will also be responsible for completing home study renewals and updates for licensed resource families within established timelines.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess one of the following:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Social Work
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Human Services or Behavioral Sciences, with at least one year of experience in child welfare as a worker or foster parent

To enhance family retention, the Support Caseworker must demonstrate effective communication skills and a strong desire to collaborate with foster and adoptive families. Proficiency in both verbal and written communication is essential, and bilingual abilities (especially in Spanish) are advantageous but not mandatory.

Additional Requirements

This position requires a valid driver's license, auto insurance, a clean driving record, and the ability to pass comprehensive background checks, including those related to child and dependent adult abuse registries, sex offender registries, and criminal history.
