Job Summary

The Maintenance Journeyman performs a variety of general maintenance activities and assists other mechanics with repairs to mobile equipment to ensure optimal production. This role interfaces daily with the rest of the operations in the location.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assists skilled personnel with maintenance tasks
  • Performs mechanical work and repairs on mobile equipment
  • Procures and moves parts, materials, equipment, and necessary tools
  • Operates hoists during repairs
  • Operates mechanical equipment to load trucks
  • Operates powered tools to perform mechanical work and repairs
  • Operates welding equipment to perform basic welding work
  • Uses oxy-acetylene torch equipment to perform light or medium cutting jobs
  • Performs shoveling and clean-up tasks
  • Stores and transports used and/or damaged equipment to other areas
  • Conducts safety walk-around inspections before shifts
  • Replaces or assists other workers as needed or directed
  • Maintains good housekeeping of equipment
  • Adheres to all CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA rules and regulations at all times and wears proper safety equipment while on plant grounds
  • Meets or exceeds company safety standards
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned by management
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to carry out simple and complex oral and written instructions and deal with problems from standardized situations and work experience
  • Good mathematical skills, including basic math, fractions, and conversions of four-five digit numbers and common units of measurement in both metric and decimal systems
  • Ability to read and understand English sufficiently to read technical information contained in manuals, reports, and operate equipment in reverse using mirrors
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and/or moving of 50 pounds maximum, with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to communicate well with supervisors, welders, leadmen, other Mechanics, maintenance personnel, co-workers, and outside contractors
  • High level of attentiveness and physical coordination to perform work activities safely and productively
Working Conditions
  • Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and working outdoors
  • Must wear protective equipment while at the location
Physical Requirements
  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment
  • Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls
