Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Staff Registered Nurse to join our Cancer Center team at Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group. As a key member of our interprofessional team, you will provide exceptional patient care, leadership, and education to our patients and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Patient Care: Provide direct patient nursing care to a diverse patient population, including patients with complex needs, and serve as an expert in oncology nursing.
  • Leadership: Assume leadership responsibilities, including leading department clinical activities, assessing department needs, and serving as a clinical resource for staff.
  • Education and Mentorship: Identify staff development opportunities, provide coaching and mentoring, and facilitate teamwork among RNs, non-licensed staff, and interprofessional team members.
  • Quality and Safety: Model the standards of care related to the nursing process, provide care as the staff nurse leader to complex patients, and lead the interprofessional health care team in implementing the plan of care.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing or Associate's degree with an additional two years of nursing experience.
  • Experience: Three years of nursing experience, with one year in oncology preferred.
  • Licenses and Certifications: RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure within 90 days, BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA), and other credentials and certifications as defined by department/service line.
Skills and Abilities
  • Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to function independently and exercise judgment in interactions with physicians, interprofessional care team, and patients and their families.
  • Leadership: Acts as an effective change agent, uses therapeutic communication to establish a relationship with patients, families, and interprofessional team to collaborate on the plan of care.
