Job Summary:

As a Police Sergeant at the College of the Holy Cross, you will serve as a first-line supervisor, overseeing the work of sworn and armed police officers, and ensuring the safety and security of the college community. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to make sound judgments in emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise police officers and other department employees in the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws and college policies.
• Review police documentation, including incident and accident reports, for accuracy and compliance with laws and regulations.
• Motivate and mentor police officers and other department employees to achieve personal success and meet department goals and objectives.
• Supervise patrol officers in the field, assign duties, and monitor compliance with policies and procedures.
• Act as Incident Commander for major incidents, and supervise dispatch operations on shift in the absence of the dispatch supervisor.
• Conduct roll call briefings with officers on shift, and make notifications as necessary to ensure shifts are adequately staffed.
• Interpret departmental policies and procedures for officers and civilian staff, and make recommendations for commendations and performance evaluations.
• Supervise field investigations, and ensure compliance with the Clery Act and Title IX regulations.

Requirements:

• Three (3) years of law enforcement experience.
• Must be immediately eligible for Special State Police Officer certification from the Massachusetts State Police and POST certification.
• Ability to obtain a Massachusetts License to Carry a firearm, and possess a current and valid Massachusetts Class D motor vehicle operator's license and clean driving record.
• Strong commitment to diversity, professional ethics, and integrity, and understanding of and commitment to community-oriented policing.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain calm manner in stressful situations, and make decisions and act quickly in emergency/dangerous situations.
• Ability to follow and provide effective oral and written instructions, and prepare written reports of investigations and maintain accurate records.
• Ability to support students through collaborative efforts and established protocols, and work in a fast-paced environment with moderate exposure to hazards and physical risks to personal safety.
