Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Aquatic Safety Specialist to join our team at The Salvation Army. As a key member of our Aquatics Team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our members and visitors. Your primary duties will include monitoring activities, observing and providing assistance to swimmers, preventing accidents, and enforcing regulations. You will also be responsible for providing first aid when necessary, assisting with the implementation of and teaching swimming lessons, and supporting general facility maintenance and cleaning duties. Key Responsibilities:
  • Enforce RJKCCC rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors, and employees.
  • Analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action to maintain constant observation of an assigned area.
  • Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and provide first aid, rescue breathing, and CPR when needed.
  • Inspect and maintain cleanliness of swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, trash cans, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other areas as assigned.
  • Maintain records and reports as assigned.
  • Assist with swim lessons as directed.
  • May work with any aspect of aquatic programs.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and customers in person and over the phone.
  • Carry out The Salvation Army mission in your actions and words during your employment.
  • Perform set up and breakdown of facility equipment as needed.
  • Follow and enforce the equipment checkout program.
  • Report defects, necessary repairs, etc.
  • Ensure that all equipment assigned to the aquatic facilities is maintained and properly inventoried on a regular basis.
  • Wear standard apparel as prescribed by the Aquatics Manager and exhibit a professional appearance at all times while on duty.
  • Ensure that the ultimate goal of spiritual, emotional, and physical regeneration of all people is represented and infused in all programs, trainings, customer relations, and levels of operation.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Meet regularly with Aquatics Manager/Pool Supervisors to coordinate operational issues with sound fiscal and budgetary requirements.
  • Work in a cooperative manner with the other members of the Aquatic Team discussing any problems that may be occurring within the aquatic center in which their programs operate.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and in-service trainings when required.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform other assignments/duties as directed.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience: Must be at least 16 years of age. Preferred experience as a lifeguard.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English. Ability to speak Spanish desired. Preferred experience as a lifeguard.

Computer Skills:

Basic computer skills including basic knowledge of Microsoft office programs and email.

Certificates and Licenses: Lifeguard training (must include Standard First Aid). American Red Cross certifications are required before start of employment. American Red Cross CPR and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer. AED certification highly desirable. American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification required, or ability to receive within six months. American Red Cross Oxygen Administration certification highly desirable. Safe From Harm Training required within 21 days of employment.
