Position Summary
The Accounting Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis while overseeing the accounting team. This role necessitates a proactive approach, which includes mentoring staff, preparing and reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations, maintaining various corporate schedules and reports, and ensuring adherence to company accounting policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate and timely financial close processes.
- Oversee general ledger transactions through thorough journal entry reviews and regular assessments of GL account coding.
- Maintain precise balance sheet accounts, ensuring reconciliations are completed accurately and promptly.
- Deliver timely and accurate financial reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Keep the Controller informed of any potential accounting or staffing challenges.
- Guide and manage the accounting team, ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures, focusing on transaction approvals, asset safeguarding, and segregation of duties.
- Provide training and conduct evaluations for accounting staff.
- Plan and manage daily workloads for the team, offering assistance as needed.
- Identify and address any weaknesses in staff outputs through training and support.
- Support other accounting team members as required.
- Prepare audit and tax schedules, along with other necessary reports.
- Ensure departmental policies and procedures are accurate and updated regularly.
- Actively contribute to the creation and revision of departmental documentation and internal controls.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in general accounting within a manufacturing context, with a focus on standard costing; distribution experience is advantageous.
- Preferred: 2+ years of public accounting experience (audit).
- CPA certification or progress towards it is preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP principles and their application.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including the creation of spreadsheets, pivot tables, Vlookups, and data visualization.
- Demonstrated initiative and urgency in meeting deadlines.
- Ability to lead and develop the accounting team to achieve daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual goals.
- Effective communication skills with management and employees across departments.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
- Exceptional organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and respond swiftly in a dynamic environment.
- Experience with large ERP systems and robust internal controls is preferred.
