Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Nurse Manager to join our team at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and management for a designated time period for a patient care unit, consistent with the philosophy and goals of the institution, Department of Nursing, unit, or program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and investigate potential and actual risk management issues, ensuring timely and appropriate reporting and follow-up.
  • Support the mission, philosophy, standards, goals, and objectives of the institution, department, unit, and service line, advancing the Professional Practice Model through staff participation and involvement.
  • Collaborate with the Nurse Manager in the evaluation and management of nursing staff, including guiding, developing, counseling, and providing written staff evaluations in accordance with established practice and performance standards.
  • Assist in facilitating a collaborative interdisciplinary approach to achieve optimal patient care outcomes, observing and guiding behaviors to improve customer service relationships.
  • Provide clinical leadership and support to nursing staff by assisting them in clinical decision-making and prioritization, consulting with staff regarding patient-related decision making, and mentoring and coaching in the development of clinical skills and specialty knowledge.
  • Provide leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of practice for patient populations served, analyzing and determining integrated care needs of patient populations, monitoring patient outcomes, and evaluating current research findings.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills by participating in relevant educational programs, maintaining a leadership presence to provide consultative assistance to staff with respect to patient care activities, and serving as a role model for staff in considering needs and behaviors of specific age and cultural groups within the patient population.
Requirements
  • Current Registered Professional Nurse in New York.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required, Master's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical practice in the care of the patient population served.
  • Ability to apply nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes in an organized fashion which addresses patient/family satisfaction.
  • Membership in pertinent professional organizations; certification in relevant practice area preferred.
  • Physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities.
