Rutgers University is seeking a skilled Habilitation Counselor to join our Child and Adolescent Services team. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in developing and maintaining a comprehensive referral process for children and families.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with school administrators and staff to build capacity on the Responsive Referral Process.
- Engage with students and families through school and home visitations, and provide follow-up support as needed to develop effective assessments and referrals to community-based agencies.
- Communicate significant behavior and information regarding children and families to supervisors.
- Support children and families through community-based activities, including attending social and recreational functions.
- Meet with individual children and families regularly to provide services tailored to their unique needs.
- Conduct home visits to engage children and families in treatment.
- Coordinate appointments, including intakes, evaluations, and clinical sessions.
- Bachelor's Degree in a mental health field, plus one year of experience working directly with children and families and the agencies that serve them.
- Active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work (for Social Work degree holders).
- Valid driver's license.
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
This role involves working in varied settings, including offices and community settings. You may be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases, and will be required to handle emergency or crisis situations. You will work with seriously mentally ill adults and may be exposed to clients exhibiting assaultive or aggressive behaviors.
