Job Overview

The Grounds Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing essential tasks related to the upkeep of public spaces, including mowing and trimming around municipal buildings and public rights-of-way. This role demands a strong understanding of various manual and powered tools, equipment, and machinery. Workers may encounter challenging environmental conditions such as dust, rain, and pollen, as well as extreme weather.

Reporting Structure:

  1. The Grounds Maintenance Worker primarily reports to the Grounds Crew Leader, while also receiving guidance from other Crew Leaders and supervisory staff.
  2. This position does not involve supervising other employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform essential tasks such as mowing and trimming on public property using both manual and powered equipment, including mowers and weed eaters.
  2. Maintain and care for tools and equipment used in daily operations.
  3. Adhere to organizational policies and follow the directives of supervisors.
  4. Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to ensure smooth operations and address any issues that arise.
  5. Exhibit good judgment and decision-making skills in job-related matters.
  6. Provide assistance to team members and demonstrate a cooperative attitude in all interactions.
  7. Report any concerns or issues to the appropriate supervisor in a timely manner.
  8. Maintain punctuality and regular attendance at the workplace.
  9. Be available for on-call duties and work outside of standard hours when necessary.
  10. Show initiative and diligence in completing all assigned tasks.
  11. Safeguard municipal property and report any required repairs.
  12. Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  13. Uphold confidentiality regarding all municipal business.
  14. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Class C Driver License with a satisfactory driving record.

Successful completion of pre-employment background checks and medical evaluations is mandatory.

Required Skills and Abilities:

The Grounds Maintenance Worker must meet the following physical and mental requirements:

  1. Ability to work safely and follow both oral and written instructions.
  2. Proficiency in using janitorial equipment and supplies.
  3. Capability to perform physically demanding tasks.
  4. Ability to learn and retain job-related information.
  5. Engagement in repetitive physical activities, such as operating a weed eater or pushing a lawnmower.
  6. Skill in using hand tools and minor repair of small equipment.
  7. Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  8. Physical capability to lift and move objects weighing at least 50 pounds.
  9. Ability to maintain balance and perform various physical movements.
  10. Effective communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing.
  11. Capability to climb ladders and work at heights.
  12. Ability to drive vehicles safely.
  13. Willingness to work extended hours as needed.
  14. Ability to respond to emergencies or unusual conditions as required.

Physical and Mental Demands:

The Worker must be able to:
