Position Overview: The Clinical Laboratory Specialist is responsible for executing a variety of standard and complex laboratory tasks, which include the processing and management of specimens, conducting tests on patient samples, calculating and reporting results, performing quality assurance procedures, and maintaining laboratory instruments and equipment. This role may also involve patient interaction through phlebotomy and other related responsibilities as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments, performing minor repairs as necessary or coordinating with technical support.
  • Participate in cross-training across various laboratory sections as required.
  • Ensure adherence to the laboratory's quality control protocols.
  • Calculate, enter, and verify laboratory results accurately.
  • Utilize the Laboratory Information System effectively.
  • Document and communicate critical laboratory findings promptly.
  • Process patient specimens with attention to detail, including collection, handling, and distribution, while being mindful of pediatric specimen volume requirements.
  • Engage in the assessment, development, and implementation of new or revised testing protocols.
  • Exhibit competence in performing patient care tasks that align with the specific needs of the patient population served.
  • Adapt assessment and treatment methods to meet the diverse physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs of patients.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the core values of CHRISTUS Health.
  • Complete all mandatory compliance and regulatory tasks, adhering to applicable policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree or higher in a relevant scientific discipline from an accredited institution, or equivalent laboratory training and experience as defined by regulatory standards. Candidates with military laboratory training of at least 50 weeks may also qualify.

No prior experience is necessary for graduates of an accredited clinical laboratory training program. Alternatively, candidates with one year of clinical laboratory experience, including rotations in Blood Banking, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids, are also eligible. Certification as MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from recognized professional organizations is required, with maintenance of certification as necessary.

Work Schedule: Full-time, 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts.
