Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical Specialist to join our team at the Hill County Sheriff's Office in Hillsboro, TX. The successful candidate will provide high-quality medical care to inmates and staff, while ensuring compliance with correctional facility policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Perform problem-focused, individualized medical assessments of inmates and staff.
  • Be physically on-site at assigned correctional facilities on a regular basis.
  • Document dates and times of provided site coverage by logging hours into an online payroll system.
  • Provide 24/7 on-call phone services and backup call for other facilities as needed.
  • Examine patients personally and prescribe medication within your prescriptive authority, taking into account patient-specific factors such as allergies, comorbidities, and pain levels.
  • Review patient medical records and sign off on orders as appropriate.
  • Comply with correctional facility policies and procedures unless doing so would be counter to common sense.
Requirements
  • Must possess a current state license (MD, DO, Nurse Practitioner, Physician's Assistant).
  • Current DEA registration (not applicable to NPs or PAs).
  • Collaborative agreement (not applicable to MDs or DOs).
  • Experience in primary care specialty, corrections, and/or managed healthcare delivery.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; hands-on training.
Compensation

The estimated salary for this position is $120,000 per year, based on industry standards and location.
