Job Title: I&E Technician

At PIC Group, Inc., we are committed to excellence in the power generation industry. We are seeking a highly skilled I&E Technician to join our team at a natural gas-fired simple cycle power generation plant near Los Angeles.

Job Summary:

The I&E Technician will be responsible for installing, troubleshooting, calibrating, and maintaining all instrumentation and electrical equipment associated with the combustion turbine, generator, and auxiliary equipment for the plant.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Recognize and mitigate safety hazards, adhering to safety guidelines for personal protection, fellow workers, and the public.
  • Apply knowledge of environmental rules and regulations to all work situations.
  • Collaborate with the operations crew to communicate problems and corrective actions to equipment.
  • Install, calibrate, test, troubleshoot, and maintain protective relays, computers, metering, monitoring, and control systems on combustion turbines, generators, and plant auxiliary equipment.
  • Maintain the Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS), including analyzer repairs, system calibrations, and quarterly audits.
  • Read and interpret electric generating plants P&ID's and CWD's to locate, identify, troubleshoot, and repair plant systems, interlocks, etc.
  • Utilize test equipment (oscilloscopes, multi-meters, electronic bridges, loop calibrators) and hand tools (drills, screwdrivers) as necessary to troubleshoot and maintain devices and systems for the power plant.
  • Complete all written and electronic records (notifications, work orders, calibration sheets, timecards, material requests) required to document the work in progress and as it is completed.
  • Continuously update knowledge of plant systems and instrumentation.
  • Make decisions about how best to repair equipment and what resources (tools, time equipment) will be needed.
Requirements:
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to respectfully communicate orally and in written reports, condition of equipment and status of jobs to crew leader, supervision, operations, and other craft personnel and outside service representatives.
  • Knowledge of electricity, voltage, and current relationships.
  • Knowledge of 480 & 4160 motor control circuits and breaker maintenance.
  • Awareness of Federal, State, and Company environmental guidelines.
  • Experience with maintenance activities and procedures performed on control systems used in power generation.
  • Ability to read and interpret instruction manuals, blueprints, and control system drawings; applies knowledge to daily tasks.
  • Capability to learn mechanical and electrical control equipment and basic power plant equipment operation.
  • Ability to apply mathematical skills including algebra and geometry to take measurements and perform computations required for installation and calibration of equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing pneumatic, electronic, PLC, and digital controllers used in control loops.
  • Ability to calibrate and perform maintenance on temperature, level, and pressure instruments and transmitters.
  • Ability to calibrate and perform maintenance on control valves.
  • Efficiency with the Lock Out /Tag Out of equipment per plant procedure.
  • Skilled with personal computers and associated software.
  • Safely operate company vehicles and equipment (e.g. forklift, plant vehicles, etc.) and maintain operating licenses and certifications. CA DL is required.
  • Effectively maintain all written and electronic records to document work in progress and completed using SAP and other MS office suite applications.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
  • Occasionally work at heights, climb ladders, stairways, and platforms.
  • Visual abilities for focusing, seeing short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
  • Adequate hearing to detect plant alarms, equipment conditions, and oral instructions.
  • Visual and olfactory senses to determine plant operating conditions and avoid hazards.
Education / Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Training or education in electronics and pneumatics, instrumentation, engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Compensation:

The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $60 - $65.
