Spotsylvania County, VA seeks a Transportation Planning Expert to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Transportation Planning Expert will provide transportation planning support for the County's Comprehensive Plan and Capital Improvements Plan, presenting findings and recommendations to various stakeholders. This role involves working with VDOT, FAMPO/GWRC, and other committees and agencies, as well as interacting with County citizens on transportation issues.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Reviews public hearing cases, site plans, and plats submitted by developers for transportation compliance.
  • Coordinates traffic engineering software used for transportation planning and TIA studies.
  • Performs transportation inspections of new development, bond reduction requests, and bond release requests, collaborating with VDOT as needed.
  • Participates in scoping meetings for TIAs and coordinates with VDOT for rezoning, special use, and site plan applications.
  • Serves as a liaison to VDOT, FAMPO/GWRC, and other transportation agencies, representing the Transportation Department at external meetings.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Civil, or Transportation Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or a related field.
  • Two to three years of experience in civil engineering, transportation planning, planning, or related work.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license, American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification, or a Master's Degree is preferred.
