Position Overview:
The Certified School Nurse (CSN) plays a vital role in identifying and addressing health issues among students within the educational environment. This professional is responsible for promoting overall student wellness and implementing disease prevention strategies.

The CSN conducts thorough assessments of students' physical health and connects them with necessary resources to ensure their academic success.


Key Responsibilities:
1. Actively participates in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, contributing health assessments and medical histories for students.
2. Advocates for healthy practices and nursing services to enhance student performance in general education.
3. Collaborates with special services personnel to provide comprehensive support for students.
4. Maintains communication with school administrators, educators, and staff regarding students with specific health concerns, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and federal regulations.
5. Adheres to district policies concerning health, emergency care, and safety protocols.
6. Informs relevant parties about confirmed communicable diseases affecting the school community.
7. Develops IEP goals related to health conditions impacting students' learning.
8. Completes and submits necessary reports regarding health screenings, immunizations, and physical examinations.
9. Documents essential information in students' health records.
10. Ensures the school health program aligns with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
11. Prepares health reports for supervisors and educational boards.
12. Provides first aid and medically prescribed services as needed.
13. Safeguards the security of health supplies and medications within the school.
14. Delivers health education in accordance with state curriculum guidelines.
15. Serves as a knowledgeable resource on health-related issues.
16. Facilitates staff development sessions on health topics for school personnel and volunteers.
17. Conducts health screenings and evaluations for students and staff.
18. Provides follow-up assessments for students as required.
19. Recommends corrective actions for identified health issues.
20. Communicates with parents regarding their children's health needs.
21. Identifies signs of abnormal growth, development, and disease symptoms, discussing findings with parents.
22. Coordinates services between the school, local health agencies, and community resources.
23. Fosters positive working relationships with all stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid nursing license in the state of practice.
- Certification or credential in school nursing is required.
- A minimum of one year of prior experience in school nursing is necessary.
- Pediatric experience is preferred.
- Adherence to relevant professional standards of practice.
- Completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
- Current CPR certification if applicable.
- TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray as required.
- Current health certificate in accordance with contract or state regulations.
- Compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements.
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable.
- Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
- Strong communication skills and proficiency in English are essential.
- Computer proficiency is required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
