Mission Contribution: The Sales Associate will support the daily mission-driven operations of the store. This role is crucial for ensuring the effective and economical management of the Goodwill store, which funds the development and placement of individuals served.

Organizational Structure: Under the guidance of the Store Manager, the Sales Associate is part of the Donated Goods Retail Operations team, responsible for the daily functions of the retail establishment. Key responsibilities include processing customer transactions accurately, maintaining a well-stocked and appealing merchandise display, and delivering exceptional customer service. This position also involves assisting in the training and development of team members, clients, and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proficient use of a computerized register system.
  • Ability to perform basic financial calculations for cash handling and register reconciliation.
  • Employees assigned to a register must count their cash drawer before and after each shift and reconcile it at the end of their shift to ensure accuracy.

· Deliver outstanding customer service by welcoming customers and addressing basic inquiries regarding store operations and merchandise.

  • Meet production standards for sorting, hanging, pricing, stocking, and pulling items.
  • Ensure continuous rotation of products.
  • Sort donations according to company protocols.
  • Perform basic calculations to track donations, count production, and price donated goods in line with Goodwill guidelines.
  • Handle and process incoming donations in accordance with Goodwill policies, including the use of a pallet jack.
  • Responsible for training and developing team members within the framework of Goodwill policies and job descriptions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain punctual and reliable attendance.
  • Exhibit professionalism consistently and maintain a friendly, cooperative demeanor with the public and colleagues.
  • Assist with loading and unloading store merchandise as necessary.
  • Support store security efforts.
  • Inform the Store Management team of low and overstocked items.
  • Perform janitorial tasks as required.
  • Adhere to all Goodwill policies and procedures regarding sales, exchanges, cash handling, and safety.
  • Carry out assigned duties in alignment with our Guiding Principles.
  • Ensure a positive experience for customers and donors.
  • Handle and process incoming donations in accordance with Goodwill policies, including the use of a pallet jack.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

· High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

· Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

· Must successfully pass skills and knowledge assessment testing.

· Pass drug screening and criminal background check.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Physical requirements include the ability to twist, bend, squat, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, push, and pull. The employee must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and team lift or use equipment to assist in lifting and moving items over 40 pounds (common items include, but are not limited to, bags of clothing/miscellaneous items, televisions, computers, sofas, kitchen appliances, bicycles, and bedroom sets).

The work environment is primarily indoors with occasional exposure to outdoor temperatures, and will involve working around occupational allergens, both airborne and contact, including but not limited to dust, animal hair and dander, perfumes, and mold. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
