Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized legal assistant to join our team at Kirsch Daskas Law Group. As a criminal defense firm, we represent adults and juveniles accused of crimes or at risk of losing their liberty or children across the state of Michigan. Our attorneys specialize in client-centered representation using a multi-disciplinary approach to accomplish clients' personalized goals.

The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. They will be responsible for handling office correspondence, administrative tasks, and legal research under the supervision of attorneys and paralegals. The candidate will also assist with creating litigation documents, managing case files, and keeping clients apprised of case status, court dates, and progress.

Qualifications include 1-2 years of prior experience in a law firm environment as a secretary or administrative assistant, some college preferred, and at least 5 years of experience in a law firm setting performing administrative tasks. Experience in criminal law is a plus. The candidate should be able to prioritize tasks with demanding deadlines, work in a fast-paced environment, and meet tight deadlines with quick turnaround times.

We offer a competitive hourly rate of $17-$25 and a drama-free environment to do your best and fulfill your personal goals and achieve work-life balance. This is an IN PERSON position.

Responsibilities:
  • Accept other administrative tasks as needed to assist the team and ensure the firm runs smoothly
  • Handle office correspondence and administrative tasks such as responding to emails and phone calls, communicating with opposing attorney offices, taking dictation, and letting the team know about upcoming deadlines
  • Complete legal research as needed under the supervision of attorneys and paralegals
  • Help with creating a variety of litigation documents, including pleadings, motions, subpoenas, affidavits, contracts, and briefs for case preparation, and proofread documents when necessary
  • Manage assigned case files to ensure deadlines are met by other team members
  • Attend weekly meetings to prioritize assignments and incorporate workflows
  • Keep clients apprised of case status, court dates, and progress
Qualifications:
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks with demanding deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Candidates should have strong organizational skills and communication skills
  • Ability to comfortably use all Microsoft Office products
  • 1-2 years of prior experience in a law firm environment as a secretary or administrative assistant
  • Some college is preferred; high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • At least 5 years of experience in a law firm setting, performing administrative tasks
  • Experience in criminal law is a plus
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines with quick turnaround times
  • Experience in billing time accurately and efficiently
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Some knowledge of legal software, case management, and docketing programs
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Patient and consistent in maintaining established standards, guidelines, and procedures
  • Unhurried, methodical, and step-by-step approach to well-defined, repetitive tasks
  • Ability to investigate information with empathy and a positive attitude
  • Effective team player and collaborator with a cooperative approach to work
