Instrumentation Technician

Job Summary
This position is responsible for providing technical support to the meteorology and air monitoring programs in the areas of instrument & sensor maintenance, refurbishment, calibration, field installation/removal, and some minor datalogger programming.
The Instrumentation Technician will work directly with the meteorologist and other team members as a technical subject matter expert in electronics & instrumentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Use of electronic test instrumentation in troubleshooting (e.g., digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies, instrument drive motors, & torque gauges).
- Failure Analysis - determination of instrument or system/process failures.
- Instrument refurbishments encompassing component replacement, alignment, and set up for calibration to specifications of record.
- Fabrication, repair or replacement of electronic signal cabling/wiring.
- Escorting of maintenance support workers & program support subcontractors.
Requirements
- Experience working with instrumentation, sensors, & dataloggers.
- Familiar with the principles of alternating current (AC) & direct current (DC) electronics.
- Self-directed with ability to work independently, meet individual goals, and work comfortably with others.
- Proficiency in oral and written communications.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, and hands-on experience working with alternating current (AC) & direct current (DC) electronics.
- Comfortable communicating thoughts and ideas in presentations verbally and in writing, along with receiving feedback.
- Willingness to take on additional technical responsibilities supporting other group-wide programmatic activities in areas of electronics and the electrical safety program.
Education/Experience
Position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and 2-4 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the job description.
Additional training, certification, and/or education may be expected, including associate's degrees and graduation from technical institutions.
Work Environment
The work location for this position is on site and is located in White Rock, New Mexico. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Clearance
This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances.
