The University of Iowa's Information Technology Services (ITS) is on the lookout for a dedicated Project Manager who is passionate about steering significant IT initiatives. This role encompasses various responsibilities, including serving as the primary contact and project liaison, to effectively plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee the execution of IT projects of varying scales.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead & Collaborate: Act as a representative of Information Technology Services, engaging with management, business units, academic departments, and technical teams. Establish and nurture relationships across the university to plan, direct, and coordinate IT projects that support the institution's objectives.
  • Strategize & Execute: Assess project requirements and needs, formulate innovative implementation strategies, and provide guidance to ensure that project goals and objectives are met within established timelines and scope.
  • Facilitate & Document: Organize, plan, and lead project meetings, document minutes, track action items, and oversee project timelines and progress.
  • Consult & Guide: Collaborate with the Project Management Office (PMO) to offer expert advice on ITS and OneIT Governance processes, ensuring alignment with the university's IT governance framework.
  • Report & Reflect: Create detailed project status reports, monitor progress, and provide insightful close-out reports to stakeholders.
Frequent interaction with university faculty, staff, and external vendors will necessitate exceptional interpersonal skills. This position reports to the Director of the IT Project Management Office within the Information Technology Services organization.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 1-3 years of project management experience with small, medium, and/or large projects.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, SharePoint, Visio, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, translating technical and business requirements into effective solutions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with all levels of management and project team members.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, with a strong focus on customer service.
  • Familiarity with online collaboration tools such as MS Teams, JIRA, MIRO, and Zoom.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience managing projects in an IT environment is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of established project management methodologies, processes, and tools is highly desired.
  • Familiarity with project management software such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or equivalent is advantageous.
  • PMP certification or progress towards PMP or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • Experience in writing requirements and documenting workflows is a plus.
  • Proven track record of managing projects within defined scope, budget, and timeline.
  • Experience in developing and reporting on key performance indicators and project metrics.
  • Experience with process improvement initiatives.
  • Adaptability to new technologies.
