The Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) at the Johnson County Mental Health Center is on the lookout for a Crisis Intervention Specialist to engage in mobile mental health crisis response and outreach.
The MCRT consists of crisis case managers and licensed professionals operating primarily in the community.
This position is for the evening shift, typically scheduled from Monday to Friday, starting at 3 p.m. Flexibility is essential due to the necessity of attending daytime meetings and training sessions.
The MCRT is dedicated to addressing emergency situations by providing brief and intensive services aimed at minimizing the need for hospitalization and law enforcement involvement, while also facilitating client access to essential resources, including mental health care.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to delivering intensive crisis intervention services, be knowledgeable in suicide and safety assessments, and be an advocate for the best interests of the clients served. A passion for public service is crucial.
Johnson County has introduced a skill-based pay structure, offering up to $4200 annually for staff who achieve licensure by the BSRB at the Clinical Level.
Initially, the Crisis Intervention Specialist will collaborate with a MCRT Crisis Case Manager to provide mobile crisis response.
This partnership will be dispatched by the JCMHC's crisis line team to safely address behavioral health crises in the community.
The team will work to de-escalate, assess, and support individuals through their crises, ensuring timely follow-up via phone or home visits to connect individuals with appropriate resources and confirm crisis resolution.
This role includes outreach visits with MCRT case managers to high-acuity clients or those facing complex circumstances for clinical assessment, safety planning, and crisis stabilization.
Responsibilities include assessing risk, developing comprehensive safety and crisis stabilization plans, referring to higher levels of care when necessary, and maintaining client safety within the community.
Proactive outreach to prevent mental health crises and reduce recidivism in the criminal justice system is also a key component of this role.
Collaboration with JCMHC teams, law enforcement, family members, hospitals, and other community organizations is essential to advocate for and meet the needs of individuals.
A Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Addiction Counseling, or a related Human Services field, along with Kansas Behavioral Sciences licensure at the master's level in the relevant area, is required.
Applicants who meet Kansas licensure requirements may be considered if they obtain licensure by the time of an employment offer and if licensure is pending confirmation at the time of application.
