Veterinary Oncology Technician

Job DescriptionThe Oncology CVT plays a vital role in our team, providing compassionate care to patients undergoing treatment for cancer. This position requires strong clinical knowledge, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff by disinfecting kennels, treatment tables, and exam rooms
- Clean, sterilize, and maintain medical equipment and instruments
- Launder towels, blankets, and surgical gowns
- Sweep and mop as needed
- Stock necessary supplies in accordance with our inventory system
- Remove garbage and recyclable materials
In addition to these tasks, the Oncology CVT will:
Provide Patient Care- Restrain patients for exams and medical treatments safely and humanely
- Walk, feed, and bathe patients as needed
- Perform medical treatments under the supervision of a veterinarian
- Administer medications, fluids, and immunological agents orally or via injection
- Enter and maintain medical records using computer systems
- Assist veterinarians in examinations, diagnostics, and surgical procedures
- Collect laboratory samples, conduct diagnostic tests, and induce anesthesia
- Monitor patient recovery progress and provide post-operative care
- Recognize and report changes in patient behavior or pain levels to veterinarians
- Obtain and record patient histories from owners
- Update owners on nursing care and treatment plans
- Review discharge summaries and educate owners on post-care instructions
- Support client service representatives with telephone inquiries and scheduling appointments
- Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) credential or equivalent
- Current certification and licensure in the state of practice
- Strong understanding of veterinary medical terminology, procedures, and pharmacology
- Technical knowledge acquired through apprenticeship, degree pursuit, or professional certification
- Prior experience in an oncology or specialty medicine unit is preferred
- Calm and reassuring demeanor in high-pressure situations
- Medical math skills for calculations and conversions
- Knowledge of feline and canine anatomy
- Patient restraint techniques
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
