Harris-Stowe State University is committed to excellence and innovation in higher education. We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our team and contribute to our research on the effects of light pollution on pregnancy.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will analyze complex datasets using advanced statistical and computational techniques, interpret results, and present findings to the research team and at conferences. This is a limited-time position funded by a grant, and the candidate will be expected to stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in neurobiology and data science.

  • Strategic Leadership: Train and organize undergraduate researchers, collaborate with researchers to design experiments and analyze results, present findings, and stay updated on industry trends.
  • Program Development and Management: Analyze large datasets related to light pollution and pregnancy outcomes, develop and implement data models and algorithms, and lead the planning, design, and launch of new grant-related protocols and procedures.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct experiments related to light pollution effects on pregnancy, record, store, and manage experimental data accurately, ensure compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines, and maintain a clean and organized lab environment.
  • Faculty Support and Development: Assist in the preparation of laboratory reports and presentations, plan and execute lab safety and procedure trainings, provide guidance and support to senior faculty and undergraduate researchers, and ensure data integrity and security.

Requirements:

  • Education: Master's degree or higher in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Neuroscience, or a related field.
  • Experience: Experience with statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS) and programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL), strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Skills: Expertise in statistics, programming, data wrangling and preprocessing, statistical analysis, data visualization, neuroimaging analysis, machine learning implementation, algorithm development, and high-performance computing.
  • Abilities: Critical thinking and problem-solving, interdisciplinary collaboration, data interpretation, attention to detail, curiosity and innovation, data integration, visualization and communication, and adaptability.
