Talascend is actively seeking a Lead Structural Engineer for a contract opportunity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and verify intricate structural engineering outputs, including calculations for steel and concrete, specifications, and material requisitions.
- Review and synchronize technical documents with other designers and engineering disciplines, as well as procurement and construction teams.
- Prepare detailed technical reports addressing specific design challenges.
- Oversee assigned project activities effectively.
- Contribute to constructability assessments.
- Provide support during construction by addressing field change requests and nonconformance reports.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and designers.
- Organize and coordinate off-project review requirements for engineering outputs.
- Lead and engage in technical discussions with clients, suppliers, and construction teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in structural or civil engineering from an accredited institution, with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
- Previous experience in a Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment is essential.
- Successful completion of the Engineer in Training (EIT) exam.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening, physical examination (if required), and background check.
- Capability to obtain a Department of Energy badge for site access.
- Right to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Proficient in executing detailed designs for complex steel and concrete structures independently.
- In-depth knowledge of the AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 318, and ASCE 7.
- Skilled in structural analysis software such as GTSTRUDL or SAP 2000.
- Familiarity with CADD applications, including MicroStation or AutoCAD.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Comprehensive understanding of engineering deliverables, including drawings, specifications, and material requisitions, as well as construction methods for concrete and steel structures.
- Awareness of work processes across various disciplines and departments on projects.
- Strong ability to articulate technical issues clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally.
- Proven ability to resolve design challenges collaboratively with subordinates, suppliers, and other engineering disciplines.
- Excellent listening, communication, planning, and organizational skills are crucial.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient in Mathcad or similar software.
- Thorough understanding of ACI 349, AISC N690, ASCE 4-98, ASCE 7, and IBC codes.
- Familiarity with standard programs such as ME-035 and Base Plate II.
- Experience in the structural design of Nuclear and/or DOE facilities.
- Background in managing discipline software life cycle documentation.
- Competence in presenting technical subjects effectively.
- Experience in addressing field issues related to FCNs, FCRs, NCRs, CDRs, and/or SDDRs.
- Professional Engineer License is preferred.
