Job Summary

The Speech Language Pathologist I Clinician is a novice to an advanced beginner level of practice, particularly as it relates to a hospital-based setting. This role is responsible for performing assessments and therapeutic interventions with the routine patient population, supporting team endeavors by performing department and/or team tasks, problem-solving, and intervention skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform assessments and therapeutic interventions with the routine patient population
  • Support team endeavors by performing department and/or team tasks, problem-solving, and intervention skills
  • Orient other allied health professionals to their field upon the successful completion of their CFY year with the approval of the Department Manager
  • Provide student experiences per approval of the Coordinator of Student Supervision
Requirements
  • Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: License (or licensure eligible) from the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Speech and Language Pathologist
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in SLP from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or Clinical Fellowship Year candidate
  • Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Current license by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a SLP, Current CCC in SLP
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous clinical experience with evaluation/treatment of neurogenic, motor speech, linguistic/cognitive communication disorders, and swallowing disorders
  • Previous experience performing swallow studies, including MBS and bedside assessments
  • Previous experience planning and executing treatment
Education/Training
  • Masters Degree from an ASHA accredited program in Speech and Language Pathology
  • Completes required learning exchange courses
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to cross-cover units not assigned as SLP's primary units of responsibility, after being oriented to unit and deemed competent for that patient population
  • Possible weekend rotations required
