Job Overview

Program Introduction:

The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indian's Head Start initiative offers a nurturing and culturally relevant preschool environment aimed at fostering school readiness for children aged 3 to 4 years. This program ensures that children receive comprehensive services to promote their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth while connecting families with community resources to enhance their development as primary educators of their children.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist classroom personnel in creating a developmentally appropriate learning atmosphere for a group of 20 children.
  • Support the implementation of daily lesson plans through assigned activities.
  • Engage actively in all classroom duties and activities.
  • Supervise children to ensure safety and prevent isolation.
  • Help with food service setup and participate in meal times with children.
  • Monitor children during bus rides to and from the program.
  • Contribute to daily cleaning and organization of the classroom.
  • Perform additional tasks as required.
Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or GED with six months of experience in an early childhood education setting, or an associate's or bachelor's degree in any field.

Background Check: Must pass a comprehensive criminal history background check.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Understanding of early childhood education principles.
  • Familiarity with preschool classroom dynamics and child behavior.
  • Basic knowledge of sanitation and cleaning practices.
  • Proficiency in using standard office equipment.
Experience:
  • Prior experience in early childhood education environments.
  • Experience in caring for preschool-aged children.
  • Basic office experience is preferred.
Abilities:
  • Effectively engage with low-income families.
  • Utilize positive behavior management techniques.
  • Work comfortably with diverse populations.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Demonstrate reliability and punctuality.
  • Follow instructions and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
  • Meet the physical demands of supervising young children.
  • Maintain professional boundaries while interacting with children and families.
Additional Requirements:
  • Obtain First Aid/CPR certification within the first month of employment.
  • Acquire a Food Handlers card shortly after hiring.
  • Complete tuberculosis screening.
  • Undergo a physical examination to confirm ability to perform job duties.
