The
Aviation Powerplant Technician is responsible for conducting organizational, intermediate, and limited depot level maintenance, which includes inspection, operational testing, repair, modification, and troubleshooting of all assigned aircraft, components, and equipment.
This role requires the application of advanced technical expertise to resolve intricate issues and to offer technical support, guidance, and training to fellow team members as necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee maintenance of all aircraft main, auxiliary, and secondary power systems, fuel systems, engine components, and bleed air systems.
- Execute troubleshooting, testing, and operational checks of power plant systems, replacing or repairing worn or damaged components such as fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine-mounted gearboxes using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
- Detach engines from aircraft, disassemble and inspect organizational level parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repair or replace defective parts before reassembling and reinstalling the engine in the aircraft.
- Interpret blueprints, technical directives, planning documents, test specifications, technical publications, and applicable safety manuals.
- May be required to provide off-site service during assigned detachments.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of three years of relevant experience.
- Experience in corrosion detection, treatment, and prevention is essential. Personnel must be qualified based on their area of expertise and the level of maintenance assigned.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any company/government required clearance, qualifications, or certifications.
- Previous military personnel must provide Member 4 DD214 with Honorable Discharge.
- A valid State Driver's License is mandatory.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance.
- Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.
- Flexibility to work all assigned shifts and schedules is necessary.
- Recent experience with F-18A-F, EA-18G, E-2D, and MH-60S aircraft is preferred.
- High level of expertise in aircraft systems.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant maintenance/technical manuals, publications, instructions, and special tools and test equipment.
- Familiarity with operational capabilities and limitations of aircraft systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of corrosion detection, prevention, and treatment.
- Strong customer orientation.
- Capability to cross-train into other specialties.
- Required Licensing and Certification:
- Formal/Specialized Training or Equivalent
- Hazardous Waste Communication Training
- FOD and TCP Awareness Training
- Security Clearance Awareness Training
- COMNAVAIRFORINST Program Awareness
- NALCOMIS/OOMA trained is preferred
- ESD Trained
- Support Equipment Operators License (Tow Tractor, N2 Servicing Trailer, and Mobile Start Unit at a minimum.)
- Collateral Duty Inspector experience
- Egress System Checkout
- Plane Captain Qualified is preferred
- Aircraft Towing Certified
- Aircraft Brake Rider Certified
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
- Fuel Surveillance Trained, Engine Run (1 T/M/S minimum) Troubleshooter/Final Checker Certified
- This role is typically performed in a hangar/shop/flight line environment, requiring physical movements and postures associated with these activities.
- May require lifting objects weighing up to 70 pounds.
- Special vision abilities needed for this position include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
- Work conditions may vary from minimal physical discomfort to exposure to inclement weather, high noise levels, fumes, airborne particles, and electrical hazards.
