About the Role

At UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper, we are seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. You will work under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the leadership team and UCIC to identify and resolve unit issues.
  • Keep co-workers and intra-op staff informed of any updates/issues.
  • Follow written instructions as needed.
  • Comply with established departmental and organization policies/guidelines.
  • Maintain, operate, and monitor all equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations and department standards.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Collect, organize, and enter information into the patient scheduling application.
  • Assist with various types of surgical operations providing technically skilled duties, serving as first assist.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of instrumentation and sterile/aseptic technique.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology program.
  • Previous Surgical Technologist experience preferred.
  • Current Surgical Tech Certification preferred, or if employed prior to July 1, 2021, registration with the Virginia Board of Medicine required.
Working Conditions

The job requires constant sitting, standing, walking, and bending/stooping. Frequent repetitive body movements. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs. occasionally. For any weight over 35 lbs. use Safe Handling Equipment.
