Certified Operating Room Assistant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Certified Surgical Technologist to join our team at Atlantic Health System. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms, providing exceptional patient care, and working collaboratively with our surgical team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist nursing personnel in providing quality care to patients in the operating room
  • Perform duties and responsibilities of a scrub person under the direction of a registered professional nurse
  • Assist in obtaining supplies, equipment, and opening of operating and other rooms as necessary
  • Break down setup and prepare instruments for sterilization
  • Help transfer patients to the recovery room and clean and restock the operating room

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Check and gather all instruments for each case in assigned room with use of surgeon's preference card
  • Check sterility tapes, dates, and integrity of wrappers
  • Open sterile supplies for assigned cases, maintain a sterile field, and take immediate action to correct any breaks in technique
  • Perform surgical scrub techniques and gown and glove procedures for self and surgical team
  • Arrange instruments, basins, sutures, and software in a precise manner for accurate count after the completion of surgical procedures
  • Assist circulating nurses with counts of all sponges, cottonoids, needles, vessels loops, umbilical tape, penrose drains, and other devices and instruments
  • Use all devices and instruments appropriately and perform the standard draping technique
  • Pass instruments to surgical team in a safe and efficient manner

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Scrub Tech in a Hospital Setting

Preferred:

  • Associate's degree in Surgical Technology or related field
