Certified Recovery Support Specialist

The Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) plays a vital role in assisting individuals who are engaging with recovery services or opting for deflection assistance. This position involves working closely within a supportive environment, guiding individuals through a comprehensive range of services available at the facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a primary support for individuals entering the program, ensuring a smooth transition from law enforcement to recovery services for a minimum of 30 days.
- Engage with new participants during the intake process, providing a welcoming atmosphere and addressing any inquiries they may have.
- Collaborate with participants and their Individual Recovery Management Team to identify and overcome barriers to accessing necessary services.
- Ensure that each individual has a personalized care plan established prior to their departure from the facility.
- Facilitate connections to mutual self-help groups when appropriate, promoting community engagement.
- Empower individuals to articulate their needs and goals, ensuring their voices are central to the recovery process.
- Assist participants in recognizing their requirements for professional support and effectively communicate these to clinical staff.
- Provide transportation to relevant referral sources or safe environments as needed.
- Encourage independent utilization of community resources through coaching and guidance.
- Maintain ongoing communication via phone or email to offer continued peer support post-program, fostering long-term success.
- Build and nurture relationships with community organizations to enhance support for individuals in achieving their recovery objectives.
- Complete necessary documentation and data entry in accordance with organizational protocols.
- Refer individuals to suitable community services as required, ensuring proper documentation of referrals and outcomes.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A strong belief in the principles of recovery.
- Proven ability to fulfill essential duties effectively.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact positively with diverse groups.
- High energy, adaptability, and strong interpersonal skills, with a focus on teamwork.
- Ability to engage with individuals based on their unique needs.
- Commitment to maintaining professional boundaries with all stakeholders.
- Capability to follow both written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Proficiency in reading, understanding, and speaking English.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is mandatory.
- Completion of Connecticut Community Recovery (CCAR) Training is required, along with CPR/AED and de-escalation training.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and the ability to learn internal software.
- A minimum of two years of continuous recovery from addiction is essential.
- Certification as a Peer Support Specialist (PSS) from the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and certification as a Certified Recovery Mentor (CRM) from MHACBO is required, though applications may be submitted within one month of hiring.
