Job Summary

NCR Atleos is seeking a strategic and results-driven leader to head its Data and AI teams. The ideal candidate will build a unified strategy around data engineering, data as a service, business intelligence/analytics, and AI (both generative and traditional AI). They will bring deep experience in mining and operationalizing data feeds across the enterprise, and building experiences that satisfy stakeholder needs while being forward-thinking about future organizational needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management:
    • Lead and mentor a team of 40 data engineers, analysts, and AI professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
    • Collaborate with the Chief Technology Officer and other senior leaders to align data strategies with NCR Atleos' business objectives.
  • Data Platform Ownership:
    • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of NCR Atleos' data platforms, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
    • Create and manage the lifecycle of data assets, including data ingestion, lineage, transformation, storage, and access.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Utilize cloud-based tools and platforms (Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, and Fabric) to build and optimize data pipelines, workflows, and expose data and AI tools as composable services available to all areas of the company.
    • Exhibit knowledge and proficiency in specific AI and machine learning frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, etc.). The candidate will lead and mentor teams who will leverage these and many other generative AI frameworks and tools.
    • Experience in taking AI models from the experimental stage to a fully operational level, including understanding how to scale models, manage resources, handle data pipelines, and integrate models into existing systems.
    • Suggest and implement architectural data patterns, such as the lake house model, to streamline data processing and analytics.
    • Ensure the integration of real-time data streaming from legacy databases and data marts into the data lake, using tools and technologies like Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, or similar cloud-centered technologies.
  • Innovation and Strategy:
    • Evaluate and recommend appropriate cloud and open technologies, platforms, and services based on fit for purpose, pricing, sustainability, and industry best practices.
    • Drive the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and methodologies in data engineering and AI, including machine learning (ML), data science, and advanced analytics.
    • Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for data and AI initiatives, ensuring alignment with industry trends and emerging technologies, and also reflecting current and future goals of the company.
  • Cloud Environment Management:
    • Oversee the deployment and management of cloud environments (Azure), ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to best practices in cloud architecture.
    • Collaborate with IT and security teams to ensure compliance with data governance and security policies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Act as a key liaison between technical teams and business stakeholders, translating business needs and challenges into technical concepts and fast, iterative, and immediately actionable delivery plans.
    • Present data tools, solutions, and services to enable stakeholders and drive independent and self-service use of data platforms and tools.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering, AI, or related fields, with a proven track record of leadership in a similar capacity.
  • Deep expertise in cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure, and familiarity with tools like Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Fabric, or other comparable and relevant technologies.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture patterns, including data lakes, lake house architectures, and real-time data streaming.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
