Position Summary
The Housing & Career Navigator plays a vital role in assisting individuals seeking support for immediate housing solutions, educational opportunities, job training, and employment services. This position involves collaborating closely with clients to create tailored service plans that address their housing needs, educational aspirations, and career objectives, while also providing ongoing support throughout their journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of clients, focusing on their housing stabilization while addressing both short-term and long-term challenges.
- Guide clients in their career progression, including resume development, job searching, interview preparation, and enhancing employment-related soft skills. Maintain regular communication with clients in line with organizational policies.
- Collaborate with clients to develop a strengths-based assessment and personalized career plan that outlines their goals and available resources to aid in their stabilization, education, training, and employment pursuits. Document progress and assist clients in transitioning to subsequent steps in their career journey.
- Utilize extensive knowledge of local low-income housing options and trends to assist clients in meeting their immediate and future housing needs.
- Work in partnership with social service professionals to deliver essential services that facilitate clients' housing and employment stability.
- Effectively manage crisis situations by developing appropriate interventions and follow-up strategies to address immediate and long-term needs while ensuring safety.
- Enroll clients in relevant programs, gather necessary information, and prepare reports to meet performance objectives set by the organization and funding entities.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate client records using tracking databases, adhering to all data entry protocols and confidentiality standards.
- Engage collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders to enhance service delivery.
- Contribute to community partnerships and inter-agency discussions that support the mission of the organization and the goals of clients.
- Assess and enhance performance in digital literacy and participant engagement as it relates to career readiness. Contribute to the development and refinement of digital skills training materials.
- Ensure client confidentiality and prepare necessary documentation and reports as required.
- Stay informed about agency policies and provide information and referrals for community-based services.
- Network and collaborate effectively with community partners.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Role
This position does not entail supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Vocational Rehabilitation, Education, Human Services, Counseling, or a related field is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in Windows-based applications is essential.
- Familiarity with client assessment techniques, community resource coordination, housing stabilization strategies, career planning principles, employability skills, and crisis intervention practices.
- Understanding of best practices for serving marginalized populations, including those experiencing homelessness, re-entry, opportunity youth, and individuals with disabilities.
- A valid Texas Driver's License, a clean driving record, liability insurance, and a reliable vehicle for work-related travel are required.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
Physical Demands
- Extended periods of sitting at a desk and using a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
- Frequent walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and effective communication are required.
- Ability to manage moderate stress levels is necessary. Specific vision capabilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
